Ho preso l'ALPHA DOG VFE... beh... SPETTACOLARE.

 

Sono rimasto davvero impressionato. E' come avere due, tre rat in pedaliera con cui giocare.

Fedele al suono rat ma con notevoli possibilità di intervenire sul suono.

Più controllato e seduto a livello di gain ma sempre ottimo per tirar fuori ondate fuzzose (molto stile tone bender).

E' possibile intervenire sulla sensibilità dell'attacco e direi che per essere un rat dà anche una bella sensazione sotto le dita.

Non ha quell'acidità caratteristica degli originali (che amo/odio) e complessivamente è più equilibrato e facile da equalizzare. Tende ad essere un pò scuro ma lavorando con l'eq si risolve.

Piccolissimo e robustissimo.

Unico difetto è forse la non immediatezza... bisogna giocarci parecchio prima di pendere confidenza.

 

Direi che raramente mi è capitato di aver trovato quello che cercavo come in questo caso. Finalmente un rat versatilissimo e comodissimo.

Mi ci sono sfasciato orecchie e occhi davanti al pc per decidere e alla fine sono soddisfattissimo e potrò tenere a riposo sullo scaffale gli originali.

Lo consiglio senza riserve!!!

A me non piacciono quelle rondelline plasticose e scomode, preferisco lo switch.

As for the difference with the FAT control...There are two resistor + capacitor legs off the op amp that control the EQ & gain range. 

In v1, the FAT control varied the resistor in the leg of the smaller cap & resistor. This made a wider EQ impact, but also an unintuitive impact on gain. Turning it up increased relative bass response by turning down the gain of the higher frequencies.

In v2, the FAT control varies the resistor in the leg of the larger cap & resistor. This makes it sort of a "full range boost". Turning it up boost all frequencies, which in turn creates a flatter EQ response overall - creating a fuller tone, and fatter bottom end. So the gain goes up AND the bass goes up....much more intuitive!

Oh, and there were never issues with production. I took 6 months away from distribution in order to improve the business model. VFE started as a hobby and took off. I've never run a business before, so a lot of things I learned the hard way. When overwhelming demand was crushing my ability to do the job well, I went on hiatus for a while to plan things out - otherwise I was going to become a crazy mess. I'm back now building & designing pedals, but I'm still ramping things back up to where they were in the spring.
